Malachy Orozco (he / him) (b. 1983) is a multi-national (USA / IRL), multi-ethnic (USA / IRL / PAN) theatre artist based in Lincoln.
In group projects, he tends to work in a catalytic capacity - enhancing the ideas of others through performance, technical production management, or some mixture of the two. His work and career are indicative of the wider merging of performance and technical disciplines within live performance - and within the context of an historically ‘siloed’ industry.
He is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has a teaching practice developed over 4 years as the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama’s first ‘Interdisciplinary Technician’ - where he was encouraged to work closely with the BA Experimental Arts and Performance, BA Drama and Applied Theatre in Education, and MFA Advance Theatre Practice courses. His teaching style is co-creative, and seeks to educate performers in ‘technical skills’ and technicians in ‘performance skills’ to foster empathetic collaboration across disciplines.
His own solo performance practice is small, rooted in Latin American magical realism writing and Irish American folk song structures. His experimental theatre works transparently explore the machinery of the constructed environment of the theatre space. His works deploy ‘theatre technology’ in novel or surprising ways, and have historically been presented as one-off presentations.
